Consulting

Twenty years of build decisions. On call, by the hour.

Not every project needs Mark as the builder. Some just need his eyes. Mark consults for homeowners planning or running a build, and for fellow builders who want a seasoned second opinion.

Who It’s For

Two kinds of clients, one kind of advice.

For Homeowners

Building or renovating with another builder?

Get an experienced set of eyes on your project before and during construction, when catching a problem still costs nothing.

  • Plan and spec review before you sign or break ground
  • Finish and layout feedback from a design-forward builder
  • Site walks at key milestones: pre-drywall, pre-closing
  • A straight answer on whether the price and schedule are right
For Builders

Running your own jobs and want a sounding board?

Builder-to-builder advisory from someone who has run fifty projects through the same market, the same towns, and the same inspectors.

  • Scheduling, budgeting, and subcontractor strategy
  • Problem-solving when something on site doesn’t look right
  • Pricing and spec-level guidance for the Winchester market
  • Process advice for growing a high-end residential operation
How It Works

Hourly. No retainer. No strings.

01

Reach out

Send a note with what you’re working on and where you’re stuck. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s something Mark can help with.

02

Scope call

A short call to understand the project and agree on what you need: a one-time review, a site walk, or a standing check-in.

03

The work

Plan reviews, site walks, or working sessions, billed by the hour. You choose the cadence, from a single visit to weekly calls.

04

Written notes

Every engagement ends with clear written recommendations you can hand to your builder, architect, or crew.

Why Mark

Advice from someone who still swings the hammer.

This isn’t consulting from a spreadsheet. Mark runs active builds every week, works with the same trades and inspectors your project depends on, and pairs construction judgment with a design director’s eye for what buyers actually want.

Common Questions

Before you ask.

What does it cost?

Engagements are billed hourly. Rate and a good-faith estimate of hours are agreed on the scope call before any work starts. No retainers, no minimums.

Will you consult on a project outside Winchester?

Yes. Most work is in Winchester, Arlington, Medford, Somerville, and Cambridge, but plan reviews and advisory calls work anywhere.

Do you compete with the builders you advise?

No. Mark takes on a limited number of his own projects each year and turns away far more work than he accepts. Advisory clients get the same honesty as his own buyers.

Can this turn into Mark building my project?

Occasionally, if the timing works. But consulting is not a sales funnel. Most engagements end with written recommendations and your existing team executing them.
